Family

Tina, and her husband Derek, have five children, of which one is school-aged and attends a Brevard Public School.  They are a BPS family with 3 Melbourne Bulldog graduates and 2 Satellite Scorpion graduates! Tina attended DeLaura Middle School and Satellite High School. 

Tina currently serves on the board of The Children's Hunger Project & AMI Kids (serving youth with troubled pasts).  She is the past president of Sally's Friends (a non-profit addiction recovery home for mothers), the past president of Indialantic PTO and she serves as the youth Sunday School teacher at her church. She volunteers with Junior Achievement of the Space Coast and Brevard Schools Foundation. 

Tina has reserved one day a month to walk in the shoes of Brevard Public School employees.  Here are some of the BPS employee roles that she has experienced: substitute teacher, cafeteria worker, school media specialist, and riding along with a bus driver for the day.  She shadowed the facilities team and operated a front-end loader and other heavy equipment. These opportunities have allowed Tina to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges each employee group faces.  

Tina Descovich is an experienced professional with over two decades of business experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Communication. In her career she has hired and managed large teams, held profit and loss responsibility and served on the executive staff for the United States Army Commanding General of the Combined Arms Support Command and Fort Lee.  For five years Tina served on the proposal team at Northrop Grumman Corporation, which developed multi-billion dollar proposals.  Following that, at the Melbourne Air & Space Show, Tina put her leadership and  communication skills to work for our community by recruiting, training and coordinating over 650 volunteers, which helped build stronger relations between our military and our community. 

Working hard to make sure she hears from those who are serving in our schools, throughout the year Tina meets with teachers and staff in every district 3 school which includes:

 - Ocean Breeze Elementary

She also travels county-wide to attend countless performances, school fundraisers, graduations and other school events all year long. 

Serving on the board of the Florida Coalition of School Board Members and as the organization's president in 2018, Tina has been fighting and championing for the students of Brevard at the state and federal level.  She's been an advocate for stronger school security and mental health supports for all students, organizing and hosting a school safety and security summit for school board members around the state of Florida. Tina was selected by her peers in 2017 to serve as the Brevard County school board Vice-Chairman and served as the Chairman for the 2018-2019 school year.
