Notable District Accomplishments Since 2016

  • Increased to an “A” district 
  • No “D” or “F” schools for the first time in 9 years
  • Increased graduation rate to 88.1% (up 2.1%)
  • BPS outperformed the state average in algebra, geometry, history and civics
  • 40% of our graduates earn an industry certification
  • We awarded a record of 434 high school graduates with AA degrees 

School Security Advocate

  • Armed security on every campus
  • Single point of entry on every campus
  • Emergency communication platform throughout district
  • Active threat assessment teams
  • Championed and secured a 3rd party comprehensive security evaluation of every campus
  • Integrated and trained with the School Safety and Security Specialist (Guardian) 5 week training class to understand school security at an in-depth level

  Champion for Mental Health Support

  • Championed and secured reoccurring funds for suicide prevention
  • Increased in-school support for the mental wellness of our students
  • Supported a more effective Suicide Risk Assessment Process
  • Increased the number of social workers in our schools
  • Worked to establish relationships with mental health organizations within our community to support our students

Fiscally Responsible & Taxpayer Advocate 

With an annual budget of almost $1 Billion, 87 schools, 9,000 employees and over 73,000 students, the Brevard County School District can be difficult to navigate. To help address this challenge,  Tina makes herself available to parents, taxpayers, staff members and students who have questions. Additionally: 

  • The district has encumbered no new debt since serving on the board 
  • Voted against using reserve funds for reoccurring funding 
  • Championed full transparency in the budget process

  Supports Teachers & Staff

  • 4% average raise for teachers serving less than 12 years with Brevard Public Schools (largest raise in 5 years)
  • 6% average raise for teachers serving over 12 years with Brevard Public Schools (largest raise in over 10 years) 
  • No increase to healthcare premiums 
  • Eliminated the wasteful and ineffective Personal Growth Plan Process 
  • Supports teacher autonomy
  • Created recognition pin program for teachers & staff 

  Expanding Workforce Training Opportunities 

  • Collaborated with legislators to secure funding to support technical education programs such as welding, construction & advance manufacturing 
  • BPS high school (Eau Gallie) hosts the only high school aviation hanger & Aircraft Mechanic program in the nation
  • Since 2016, BPS has opened 10 new technical programs for high school students 

Empowering Parents & Families 

Tina believes that parents and families know what is best for their student and we must empower parents to be as involved as possible in the education of their children. 

  • Championed equity for students by promoting school choice options (Education Location Options (ELO), Education Program Options (EPO), Charter School Information, Home School, Dual Enrollment)
  • Served as President of the Florida Coalition of School Board Members (FCSBM), an organization dedicated to focusing on the needs of each individual student and empowering parents

Supporting District 3 Schools 

  • Secured district funds to supplement funding for the state-of-the-art track for Satellite High School
  • Directed the district to create a competitive program for Palm Bay Magnet High School which resulted in the prestigious "Pirate To Panther" program, allowing Palm Bay High students to dual enroll at Florida Institute of Technology
  • Secured funding for Robotics kits and the ability to create a Robotics II class for West Shore Jr./Sr. High School
  • Escorted Student Government leaders from all D3 schools to Tallahassee to meet with legislators and lobby for mental health support
  • Secured funding for extra security cameras & radios at Holland, Sea Park, Surfside, Indialantic, & Port Malabar Elementary Schools 
  • Championed much needed upgrades to Riveria Elementary School
  • Secured funding for outdoor eating areas for Palm Bay Elementary & Stone Middle School
